Bradford district- including Keighley – was recognised as a ‘City of Sanctuary’ on 18 November, 2010. Keighley and Bradford are places where “a broad range of local organisations, community groups and faith communities, as well as local government are publicly committed to welcoming and including people seeking sanctuary”.
Keighley Place of Sanctuary is:
“A network which seeks to increase and develop Keighley’s capacity to respond to the needs of Asylum Seekers and Refugees, made up of separate organisations who chose to cooperate with each other”
The main organisations seeking to network together include The Good Shepherd Centre, The Salvation Army, The Society of Friends, but also work in partnership with Mears Housing, NHS local, Keighley College, City of Bradford, Keighley Parish, Madina Mosque, BIASAN, Eastwood School, Church of the Nazarene, The Methodist Church, The Baptist Church, St Annes Catholic Church, with many other local organisations involved.
